Q&A before your veneer treatment.

veneer2Veneers are the perfect treatment for smile changes. They are usually placed in anterior teeth and they can correct the type, shape and the color of your teeth.

Choosing veneers for smile improvement can be an expensive procedure so make sure you ask your dentist all the questions needed, before you make your final decisions.

Do you use veneers in your practice?

It may sound strange but the truth is that there are dentists that do not provide veneer treatment and may sound skeptical when you talk to them. Make sure you choose a suitable dentist for your case and do not hesitate to ask for pictures of the cases he/she treated before picking the right one.

What type of veneers do you use?

There are two major types of veneers, the porcelain and the resin ones. Resin veneers are made in the dental office, while the porcelain veneers require a dental technician. Porcelain veneers last longer and may produce a higher aesthetic result while resin veneers are cheaper but may discolor over time.

Are you going to prepare my teeth?

There are only a few cases of prep-less veneers. In most of the cases teeth need some adjustment. The adjustment has to be minimal though, otherwise veneers may not be able to be bonded on dental enamel, resulting in failures.

Are my veneers going to change over time?

Porcelain veneers do not change color. They may last 15-20 years. Resin veneers may discolor though, because of the porous nature of composite resin. If you take good care of them though, by brushing and having regular dental appointments they can last up to 5-10 years.

Is there a way to know how are my teeth going to look before the treatment starts?

Nowadays, there are computer softwares that may simulate your final smile. The best way to know if you are going to like your new teeth is a wax up and a mock up of the result, if possible in your case.

With the mock up in place you will be able to ask your dentist to make the changes you feel are needed.

How long are my veneers going to last?

High quality porcelain veneers may last up to 15 years. Resin veneers do not last that long, but can still last many years if you take good care of them and have them polished professionally every six months.
