What are porcelain veneers?

 Porcelain veneers are very thin porcelain prostheses that are bonded on the front surface of anterior teeth improving their shape, length and color.

They are used with huge success for esthetically concerned patients, in order to achieve a healthier and better looking smile.

When are veneers used?

 Veneers are used to correct discolored teeth, worn down teeth, misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped teeth.

They are also used to achieve permanently white teeth or on chipped and broken teeth. Veneers are also ideal for the closure of a diastema.

Last but not least with porcelain veneers we can redesign your smile. In a case like that they are usually placed on all anterior teeth and they can change completely the way your face looks.

Veneers cannot be used on a tooth already crowned or on a tooth that is missing a big part of its structure.

What are the advantages of a veneer?

 Porcelain veneers can make the teeth look natural and healthy. They are very thin and demand very small amount of tooth removal.

They do not stain over time and they give a long lasting pleasing result.

What is the procedure for the fabrication of a veneer?

 Teeth usually need some preparation before the fabrication of a veneer. This consists of the removal of a small amount of tooth structure, in order to accommodate the finished veneer in the tooth volume.When teeth preparation is needed, we usually provide local anesthesia.

We then take an impression and in a week’s time the lab sends back the finished veneer that will be bonded in the tooth. In the meantime, the tooth is usually carrying a temporary veneer.

How much do porcelain veneers cost?

 Cost is different from one practice to the other and it usually depends, on the dentist and his expertise. Make sure that you have discussed the cost with the treating doctor and ask for pictures of cases that have been treated in the practice.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

 Veneers last for a long time. If they are correctly fabricated and bonded on enamel they act like natural teeth and can last up to a lifetime.

Are there alternatives?

 Most of the problems that porcelain veneers treat; can easily be corrected with composite veneers too. The technique is usually called dental bonding.

Composite veneers are more economical compared to porcelain veneers but they don’t last as long.
